Instant analysis of Packers drafting Kevin King in the second round

Only months after watching Dez Bryant and Julio Jones terrorize his undermanned cornerback group during the NFC playoffs, Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson used his first pick in the 2017 draft to add a tall, athletic cornerback he hopes will help combat receivers like Bryant and Jones moving forward. The Packers’ pick at No. 33 overall: Washington cornerback Kevin King. In a deep cornerback class, King stood out in terms of his size (6-3) and athletic ability. He made easy work of the combine in Indianapolis, running 4.43 in the 40-yard dash and posting top numbers in the vertical jump (39.5″), 3-cone drill (6.56), 20-yard shuttle (3.89) and 60-yard shuttle (11.14). Report: Jahri Evans signing with Packers

The Packers have said goodbye to a pair of guards in the last year with the release of Josh Sitton and T.J. Lang joining the Lions as a free agent, but they are reportedly bolstering their options at the position with the addition of another veteran. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Packers are signing Jahri Evans. Evans has played for the Saints for the last 11 seasons, although he did spend last offseason with the Seahawks before being released and returning to New Orleans. He started every game for the Saints after making that return to the roster and has 169 career starts in the NFL. There was a recent report that members of the Packers coaching staff were unhappy about Lang’s departure,

Report: Packers’ coaches “incensed” Ted Thompson let T.J. Lang walk

When the Packers decided not to out-bid the Lions for veteran guard T.J. Lang last month, it was business as usual: The Packers don’t overspend in free agency, and when a soon-to-be 30-year-old guard with a hip injury hits free agency, that’s the type of player you’d expect to leave in Green Bay. Nonetheless, it apparently didn’t sit well with Green Bay’s coaching staff. According to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers’ coaches were incensed that G.M. Ted Thompson let Lang get away in free agency. McGinn suggests that longtime Packers offensive line coach James Campen was working hard to keep Lang and was particularly upset when the Packers didn’t keep him. If that’s true,

A.J. Hawk to retire with the Packers

Former linebacker A.J. Hawk has decided to retire from the NFL as a member of the Green Bay Packers. The Packers announced Hawk’s decision on Tuesday. “The first thing that needs to be said about A.J. Hawk is that he is a good man,” general manager Ted Thompson said in a press release. “He was a terrific teammate and a true professional during his career, and we were lucky to have him. A.J. will always be a Packer. We wish the best to him and the entire Hawk family, and thank them for all that they gave to the team and the city of Green Bay.” The fifth overall pick in the 2006 draft and the first draft choice of head coach Mike McCarthy, Hawk went on to play nine solid seasons in Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers Remains The King Of The Hail Mary

A Hail Mary seems like a weird thing to be good at, no? Even etymologically, it’s a prayer, a low-expectation play that has a much better chance of being picked off—to say nothing of being knocked down—than of being completed. And by definition, once that thing is up there, it’s anybody’s ball. And yet Aaron Rodgers…
