Laurent Duvernay-Tardif has gone from the offensive line to the front line, using the medical degree he completed during offseasons with the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs to help patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Duvernay-Tardif began by making public-service announcements and getting out the word about social distancing. The only active medical school graduate in the NFL earned his degree from McGill University.

Brown excited over West Virginia football NFL opportunities

West Virginia had a pair of former players selected in the NFL Draft. Safety Kenny Robinson was the first selected in the fifth round by the Carolina Panthers and while he did not finish his career in Morgantown due to being removed from school over academic conduct issues, Brown remained in contact with him throughout the process. During two years in Morgantown, Robinson finished with 84 tackles and 7 interceptions and was named a first-team all-Big 12 selection after his sophomore season.

The Los Angeles Chargers are hiring Pep Hamilton as quarterbacks coach, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because the deal, first reported by The Athletic, has not been officially announced by the team. Hamilton was head coach of the XFL’s DC Defenders before the league ended its season after five weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Overshadowed by top target Equanimeous St. Brown were sophomore Miles Boykin and freshman Chase Claypool. Boykin was redshirted as a freshman the year prior, and then as a 2016 sophomore caught only six passes for 81 yards and a score. The freshman Claypool had similar numbers that year with five grabs for 81 yards and no touchdowns.

Ex-Jaguars LB Smith charged with sexual activity with minor

Former Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith was arrested Wednesday on a charge of having sexual activity with a minor. The 29-year-old Smith was booked into the Duval County Jail around 5 p.m. and released about five hours later on a $50,003 bond. According to Florida Statute 794.05, which was the listed charge in the jail log, unlawful sexual activity with certain minors is a second-degree felony and applies to any person age 24 or older who engages in sexual activity with a person 16 or 17 years old.
