The Tennessee Volunteers dismantled the fifteenth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks, 80-61, in a game they led since the opening tip. Yves Pons lead the charge scoring 17 points and five rebounds as four Volunteers scored in double figures. The Jayhawks looked like they were poised to make a run opening the second half with back-to-back baskets from Ochai Agbaji, but Tennessee thwarted that attempt and blew the game open with a 9-0 run that eventually ballooned to a 26-point advantage.

(AP) The Kansas City Chiefs were supposed to have a talented lineup of millionaires, each a seasoned veteran of the rough-and-tumble NFL, protecting their half-billion dollar quarterback as they defended their Super Bowl title this season. Instead, they’ll have a motley cast of late-round draft picks, journeymen and castoffs making up their offensive line. The Chiefs lost Pro Bowl left tackle Eric Fisher to a torn Achilles’ tendon in their AFC championship win over Buffalo, which means they are headed to the Super Bowl next weekend with just one starter playing his original position.

Elijah Harkless sinks clutch bucket to lift No. 24 Oklahoma past No. 9 Alabama, 66-61

The Oklahoma Sooners outlasted the ninth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide to pull off the, 66-61, upset win fueled by De’Vion Harmon. Harmon lead the Sooners with 18 points and four rebounds, but it was Elijah Harkless who sunk the dagger to thwart Alabama’s 12-point comeback. With the win, Oklahoma notched it’s third-straight win against a top-10 team and snapped Alabama’s 10-game win streak.

Falcons hire former backup QB Yates as passing specialist

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) T.J. Yates is returning to the Atlanta Falcons as a coach. Yates, a native of suburban Atlanta who spent one season backing up Matt Ryan, was announced Saturday as the passing game specialist for new head coach Arthur Smith. The Falcons also hired Lanier Goethie as a defensive assistant and Nick Perry as the assistant defensive backs coach.
