New England Patriots defensive lineman Trey Flowers walked into the team’s locker room on Monday night, still wearing the ”Super Bowl Champions” hat the players were handed on the field in Houston after winning the NFL title. ”I haven’t taken it off much” in the previous 20 hours, Flowers said. The Patriots returned to New England on Monday night, bringing their fifth Vince Lombardi Trophy home to show off for fans who filled the parking lots outside the team’s stadium and lined up for hours outside the souvenir shop hoping to buy championship gear.

The Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t going to wait for cornerback Justin Gilbert to get it together. Pittsburgh on Monday released the eighth overall pick in the 2014 draft following an unremarkable stay with the team. While searching for depth in the secondary, the Steelers acquired Gilbert from Cleveland in August in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2018 draft.

It wasn’t exactly ”Dewey Defeats Truman,” but some Florida readers of The Boston Globe learned a different Super Bowl outcome than most on Monday morning. Early editions of New England’s largest newspaper ran a front page suggesting the Patriots lost to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night, with a headline that read ”A Bitter End” over a large image of star quarterback Tom Brady falling to his knees. The Falcons had a comfortable lead going into halftime, but the Patriots mounted a furious rally and won 34-28 in overtime for the franchise’s fifth championship.
