Jay Gruden on Kirk Cousins: 'He's gonna be here this season, and that's all I care about'

For the second straight season, Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins was unable to come to a long-term agreement on a contract by the start of free agency, and was instead given the franchise tag.  He played out the 2016 season on the tag, which was worth $19,953,000, all of it guaranteed. He clearly

Need to Know: Gruden talks Redskins draft strategy, Ryan Anderson, QB's

Since we don’t know how the careers of the players picked by the Redskins yesterday will turn out we must dig in a little more to come up with a grade for the draft headed up by Bruce Allen. For the record, the trade (picks 201 and 220 from Washington to Minnesota in exchange for picks 199 and 230) was just about a wash on the Jimmy Johnson trade chart, with the Redskins giving up a statistically insignificant one point of value. Whether center Chase Roullier, the player they traded up to draft, makes the team and has an impact or not is not going to make or break the draft but it should be noted that they gave up something of value to get him so it was a player they wanted to make sure they got as his name was still on the board. The deals that got them up to 10 picks had already been made by Scot McCloughan on draft day last year as he added picks in the fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds with various trades.

Get A Load Of The Washington Post Toting Water For Dan Snyder's Upcoming Stadium Scam

Nothing in this fawning Washington Post profile of Bruce Allen, team president of D.C.’s NFL franchise, would seem so much as a hair out of place in a glossy gameday program handed out by team employees inside the home stadium. To the extent it contains a thesis more complex than Bruce Allen is good, its thesis is

Thursday Night Football is the NFL at its worst. Dean Blandino Explains Why Yet Another Hit On Cam Newton Didn't Draw A Flag

The latest edition of What Will it Take for Cam Newton to Draw a Flag? aired on Monday night, when a scrambling Newton slid—maybe late—and got hit helmet-to-helmet—maybe glancing—by Washington LB Trent Murphy. There was a flag thrown on a play: a taunting call on Newton for flipping the football at Murphy. Yesterday, NFL VP of officiating Dean Blandino attempted to explain and justify the referee’s ruling.

Cam Newton Takes Hit To The Head, Somehow Ends Up Being The One Penalized

Defenses have been abusing Cam Newton all season, and NFL officiating teams have continued to keep the flags in their pockets. So when the flag came out after Trent Murphy’s blow to the Carolina QB’s skull after a third-down rush tonight against Washington, it was a short-lived sigh of relief for Panthers fans—because the flag ended up being on Newton himself.
