New Zealand’s Lydia Ko became the first woman to claim multiple Olympic golf medals with her bronze at the Tokyo Games on Saturday and won hearts in Japan for her unwavering sportsmanship. Five years after being the runner-up at the Rio Olympics, the South Korea-born Ko was edged for a second silver medal by Japan’s Mone Inami in a playoff, with American Nelly Korda winning gold by a stroke. Though competing fiercely, and at one stage grabbing a share of the lead with Korda, Ko applauded her rivals’ good shots and bumped fists with them between holes.

Olympics-Water polo-Hungary win bronze after beating Russian team

Hungary claimed the bronze medal in the Olympic women’s water polo competition with a gritty 11-9 win over the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) team at Tatsumi Water Polo Centre on Saturday. The Hungarians, who had never finished on the women’s water polo podium, won their first Olympic medal in style, with goalkeeper Alda Magyari scoring into an empty net with four seconds left as all the ROC players pushed up into attack. Magyari, who also made 10 saves, was one of eight Hungarian players who found the net, with wing Vanda Valyi top scoring with three goals.

Kevin Durant led Team USA’s victory over France in the men’s basketball final in Tokyo on Saturday, avenging a first-round loss and claiming a 16th gold for the country in the sport. Durant, who in these Games surpassed Carmelo Anthony as the United States’ highest career scorer, led with 29 points in the 87-82 victory at the Saitama Super Arena. The championship attracted the biggest crowd yet to the arena north of Tokyo in these Games, with the bottom bowl of seats about half full of athletes, officials, media and volunteers in place of fans due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Donaldson's RBI single in 11th lifts Twins over Astros 5-4

Mitch Garver homered early and Josh Donaldson had an RBI single in the 11th inning to in the Minnesota Twins’ 5-4 victory over the Houston Astros on Friday night. Donaldson laced a ball to right field off Rafael Montero (5-4) with no outs in the 11th to score the runner who started the inning on second base. There were two outs in the bottom of the inning when Jason Castro reached on a fielding error by Garver that left a runner at third.

Rio 2016 gold medalist Taha Akgul of Turkey said he considered “hanging up the boots” after failing to retain his title in Tokyo, losing to gold medal winner Gable Steveson in the second round of men’s super heavyweight competition. Stevenson stunned Akgul on Thursday without dropping points. The 21-year-old U.S. wrestler later defeated Georgia’s triple world champion Geno Petriashvili with a last-gasp victory in the super heavyweight gold medal bout on Friday to win his first Olympic medal.

Pittman lays out goals, areas of focus for fall camp

Arkansas will return to the practice fields Friday afternoon, marking the start of fall camp in Year 2 of the Sam Pittman era after four months of offseason training. Coming off a 3-7 season in which they snapped their lengthy SEC losing streak and were within seven points of a winning record, the Razorbacks are confident heading into 2021 despite the toughest schedule in college football awaiting them. Part of that confidence stems from the success they had last year, Pittman said, but it also helps that Arkansas managed to retain offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, defensive coordinator Barry Odom and special teams coordinator Scott Fountain.
