The NFL has changed course and is allowing teams to announce agreements they have reached with free agents as well as trades. The agreements and trades leaked out anyway, and on Thursday the NFL sent a memo to the 32 teams telling them it has amended its policy. The league has barred travel by players to team facilities and also halted club personnel traveling to meet with free agents as a safeguard against the new coronavirus.

The Latest: Lions agree to trade CB Darius Slay to Eagles

The Lions agreed to trade cornerback Darius Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles, ending the standout defensive back’s seven-year stint in Detroit. Agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed the trade Thursday and that Slay has agreed to a three-year, $50 million extension with Philadelphia. The Lions drafted Slay 36th overall in 2013, and he earned All-Pro honors in 2017.

Chargers make upgrades on both lines and secondary

The Los Angeles Chargers had an active start on the first day of the new league year despite missing out on Tom Brady. The Chargers upgraded their offensive line with the acquisition of right guard Trai Turner from Carolina for tackle Russell Okung as well as agreeing to a three-year deal with right tackle Bryan Bulaga. On defense, they have agreed to a contract with Chris Harris Jr., who was considered one of the top cornerbacks available, as well as adding a run stopper in defensive tackle Linval Joseph.
