Barkley, 49ers hit with potentially season-ending injuries

A star-studded cast of NFL players departed their games with injuries on Sunday. Start with running back, where Giants star Saquon Barkley is believed to have torn the ACL in his right knee early in their loss at Chicago. All-Pro standout Christian McCaffery departed Carolina’s loss to the Buccaneers with a right ankle injury, 49ers running back Raheem Mostert left with a knee injury, and the Rams’ Cam Akers hurt his ribs.

The injury carts rolled out twice in three plays and the 49ers lost a few more key players. Raheem Mostert ran for an 80-yard touchdown on San Francisco’s first play from scrimmage and Jimmy Garoppolo threw two TD passes – before both players sat out the second half with injuries – to lead the banged-up 49ers to a 31-13 victory Sunday. It was a costly victory for San Francisco, which was already hurting in a big way before losing Garoppolo to a high ankle sprain and Mostert to an injured knee.

49ers rule out Jimmy Garoppolo, Raheem Mostert vs. Jets

The 49ers’ trip to New York couldn’t be off to a worse start. Jimmy Garoppolo and Raheem Mostert were both ruled out for the game to open the second half. Garoppolo hurt his ankle early in the game and played through it in the first half. Mostert is dealing with a knee issue. Garoppolo’s stat line in the first half was 14-for-16 for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Mostert went for 92 yards on eight carries with one touchdown. He also added two catches for 15 yards
